Dec 04, 2005Hey everyone, I posted a while back about buying a knee mill and adding a seperate z stage to which I could add a high speed spindle so I wouldn't be limited by the slow spindle speed of a typical milling machine. My goal is to grind ceramics, and this will require 15,000 RPM. Building a seperate stage will take time and I'd like to find an easier alternative in the mean time.

Aug 25, 2019I would personally have the DRO on the mill, jig bore or jig grinder. Now a lathe with a easy trac controller is a different story. The spindle bore at 1.57 is actually generous, the monarchs in one shop were 16 swing 60 beds and only had 1 3/8 spindle bores.

Feb 28, 2009I chose the Hermle over the DMG because of the service issues with DMG, as well as people reporting accuracy problems. The Hermle service has been excellent, even though I am a small job shop. I can do parts on this machine that used to go to a jig-grinder, and the 5x accuracy has never been an issue.
