We report on finding the missing piece of the puzzle for interconnected titanate nanostructure reactions: converting titanate nanowires into titanate nanotubes using mechanochemical activation in a planetary ball mill. The best conversion is achieved with an individual ball impact energy of 11 mJ/hit and a cumulative milling energy of 892 J g −1.
